For eight mana, you can transform Kefka to Kefka, Ruler of Ruin. Once he’s on the backside, Kefka constantly refills your hand whenever your opponents lose life. With how much forced discard goes on with Kefka, Ruler of Ruin’s draw power is appreciated so you’re never discarding your best cards to your effects. Kefka, Court Mage is the Kefka card available in the main set of Final Fantasy. Grixis (blue/black/red) Kefka plays into forced discard, and easily draws a ton of cards so that you keep your hand full while your opponents lose everything they have.
This set marks the first time Magic has properly tackled sci-fi as a setting, and it’s a major departure from the game’s usual swords ‘n’ sorcery. This means we’ll see fantasy staples being given a futuristic commander deck twist, not to mention a whole cast of characters we’ve never met before. Kuja, Genome Sorcerer, one of the legendary creatures from the Final Fantasy crossover, is great for burn and strategies with Wizard tokens in MTG.

As usual for a mainline set, Edge of Eternities does indeed feature a special, serialized card. More specifically, the ‘Headliner’ for this set (e.g. the most hard-to-find and highly sought-after card) is Sothera, the Supervoid. This will only be available in Collector Booster packs.

You can pick up prerelease boxes at special prerelease events, followed by bundles that provide players with a handful of Play Boosters and accessories. Draft Boosters are designed to draft a deck and play with a group of friends in epic 2-player battles.
Key Cards
As per usual, the backbone of this set is the Play Booster range. There are two ways to get them here; individually, or in a larger box. Indeed, it feels as if this set is getting a far bigger fuss made of it than usual; there’s a host of tournaments and activities being run in its honor. This promises to keep Edge of Eternities on fans’ minds long after release day. MTG Edge of Eternities is due to launch on August 1, 2025, but that doesn’t mean you’ll need to wait until then for the fun to begin. The set’s story has already begun, and a full debut will follow shortly.

Kefka is a very damaging card, both in terms of power and in terms of affecting the gamestate drastically. Kefka drains your opponents of resources while swinging in for damage. Since your opponents have to discard a ton, there’s a reanimation sub-theme in the deck. Or perhaps, collectors will instead be most interested in the new Final Fantasy x Secret Lair drops, instead.
This list includes a bit of variety to reflect what’s actually trending, while still focusing on the standout cards from the set.
